CHANDIGARH: About 250 people supported TOI's "Rise Up Campaign" which was held in Sector 35 market on Sunday evening. Women empowerment and eradication of corruption and crime were the main issues which the signatories wanted to be addressed.
The board was filled with enthusiastic comments in an hour -- "Vote for the change of law for girls", "Each vote counts, vote for change", "Vote for your dreams", "Each one, vote one" and "Vote for women empowerment, vote for better India", among others.
Charmi Sahni, 19, a first-time voter, wrote, "Vote! Exercise your power. Each vote counts." "Everyone, especially women, should come out to vote. More the votes, more are the chances of a constructive change in the city and in the country," she said.
Abhinay Kaul, 25, a resident of Sector 41, said, "We should vote to put the country on the path of development. I will definitely take part in the democratic process and exercise my right responsibly."
The five days of the drive have seen more than 3,000 people take a pledge to vote this Lok Sabha elections.
On Monday, TOI will hold the campaign at Panjab University's Gandhi Bhawan from 11am to 1pm.
